Virulence Mechanisms in Tuberculosis
نویسنده
چکیده
A critical feature of the latency stage is granuloma formation, with the presence of giant cells. This leads to caseous necrosis and the release of bacilli, which can then be transmitted to new patients and infect them. At this stage, the bacilli are referred to as extracellular bacilli, and their condition is anaerobic. Then, is some cases, calcification occurs, while in others, dissemination takes place, with miliary tuberculosis or meningitis.

IMPORTANCE OF CATALASE ENZYME IN VIRULENCE OF ISONIAZID RESISTANT ST RAINS OF MYCOBACTERIUM TUBERCULOSIS IN GUINEAPIGS
In this study, twenty-five strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis resistant to isoniazid (INH) were isolated from patients with tuberculosis (TB). Nine strains (36%) were found to be virulent in guinea-pigs [root index virulence (RIV» 1 ]. The remaining sixteen strains (64%) were non-virulent (RIV <1). Of the nine strains resistant to INH as well as virulent to guinea-pigs, eight of them wer...
متن کاملVirulence in isoniazid-resistant clinical isolates of Mycobacterium tuberculosis from south India
Isoniazid, is the only antituberculous drug for which the relation between lack of virulence and acquisition of resistance was associated. INH-resistant mutants were shown to contain defective katG gene. Classical studies showed that INH-resistant south Indian isolates have lower virulence in guinea pigs and higher susceptibility to H2O2. It is of interest to assess the virulence in south India...
متن کاملIdentification of Mycobacterium tuberculosis adherence-mediating components: a review of key methods to confirm adhesin function
Anti-adhesion therapy represents a potentially promising avenue for the treatment and prevention of tuberculosis in a post-antibiotic era. Adhesins are surface-exposed microbial structures or molecules that enable pathogenic organisms to adhere to host surfaces, a fundamental step towards host infection. Although several Mycobacterium tuberculosis adhesins have been identified, it is predicted ...
متن کاملHorizontal transfer of a virulence operon to the ancestor of Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
The contribution of interspecies horizontal gene transfer (HGT) to the evolution and virulence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the agent of tuberculosis in humans, has been barely investigated. Here we have studied the evolutionary history of the M. tuberculosis Rv0986-8 virulence operon recently identified, through functional genomics approaches, as playing an important role in parasitism of ho...
متن کاملCombination of host susceptibility and virulence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis determines dual role of nitric oxide in the protection and control of inflammation.
Tuberculosis (TB) remains a global health threat. Although it is generally accepted that TB results from intensive cross-talk between the host and the pathogen Mycobacterium tuberculosis, underlying mechanisms remain elusive. The first evidence of human polymorphisms related to susceptibilities to distinct M. tuberculosis lineages has been gathered. Confrontation of limited host resistance with...
متن کاملThe LuxR family regulator Rv0195 modulates Mycobacterium tuberculosis dormancy and virulence.
Tuberculosis is a leading global killer that has not been effectively controlled to date. The ability of the causative agent, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, to become dormant is one of the major reasons for extended chemotherapeutic regimens and wide epidemicity. The underlying mechanisms of M. tuberculosis dormancy are not fully understood. In the present work, a LuxR family transcription factor ...
